Traditional instruments are part of ceremonies and help direct intentions
Halloween, also known as Halloween, is a popular celebration that has gained popularity in Brazil. According to Arthur Peroni, esoteric consultant of iQuilibrio, the celebration dates back to ancestral traditions. “Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic tradition, which was called Samhain. The term meant ‘the end of summer’, but also marked the last harvest and the beginning of a new Celtic year,” he explains.
The Celts believed that, on that night, the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead thinned, allowing spirits and supernatural beings to roam the Earth. “In this way the ancestors built offerings or bonfires, because they believed that the light of the fire would guide the souls who had not yet found peace,” he adds. Divination practices were also performed during Samhain to seek greater spiritual understanding and self-knowledge.
Tools and symbolism of witchcraft
Witchcraft, a common symbol of Halloween, is composed of a number of elements that go far beyond popular imagination. “Magical ritual tools are not necessary for performing spells, but they help with enrichment and also symbolize complex energies in magic. They are used to focus intention and attention when performing magic. They are also capable of invoking entities , ward off negativity and direct energies, “explains spiritual consultant Kélida Marques.
Objects such as cauldrons, brooms and wands, popular in films and stories, have profound meanings and help channel spiritual forces. In addition to strengthening intentions and energies, these tools are used to attract protection, purify environments and ward off negative influences.
Below, Kélida Marques explains more about these objects and their purposes. Check!
1. Atame
Also called a spiritual sword, it is a double-edged sword that represents the element of Air and is used in rituals to guide the energies and project the Magic Circle. Some traditions use it to invoke entities. It also symbolizes masculine energy, as it is phallic. It is usually sold blunt, as it does not need to be sharpened to be used in spells.
2. Bubbles
It is a white-handled knife generally used for gathering herbs and marking inscriptions. Practical tool for magical work. Unlike the Athame, this is a more manual than figurative instrument.
3. Personal
Its purpose is to direct the energies and open the magic circle. The stick can also be used to purify negative energies of places and portals open to other dimensions. This tool is generally related to wizards, as it is a sturdier tool, but there is no impediment to its use by wizards and witches.
4. Cauldron
It has a shape that refers to the womb of the great mother and symbolizes fertility. The more traditional formats have three feet, representing the Triple Goddess (Elder, Mother and Maiden) and growth. It is typically used in spells where witches burn cards containing thanks, requests and prayers. It is also used to prepare foods, potions and dehydrate herbs.

However, witches have always had a tradition of using it. It is not an aesthetic option, but the belief that the pointed shape helps to reach and enhance energy; just like the pyramids of ancient civilizations.

8. Broom
It is a universal symbol of witchcraft and there are several theories about this relationship. The main one is that witches use broomsticks to fly. Like other magical ritual tools, the broom also has its own meaning: the handle represents the masculine and the piassava, the feminine; united, they form the symbol of fertility.
