The lawyer and former BBB Gizelly Bicalho (33) underwent surgery last Thursday, the 16th, after rupturing a ligament while participating in the reality show The Farm 16, last year. In an interview with CARAS Brazilthe rheumatologist Fabio Jennings explains the digital influencer’s condition and warns about recovery after the medical procedure.

In a post on her Instagram feed, Gizelly Bicalho appeared in the hospital bed and explained what happened. “WCompleted surgery to repair torn shoulder ligament. Now is the time to focus on recovery, but in three months I will be 100% recovered. Thanks to those who have always believed and been by my side”, he explained.

According to Dr. Fabio Jennings, these injuries generally occur in the tendons of the shoulder, particularly those that are part of the rotator cuff, a type of set of muscles and tendons that stabilize and move the shoulder.

“Ruptures can be partial, i.e. only part of the tendon is affected, or total, which are the most important and symptomatic.However, the consequences of tendon ruptures depend not only on the extent of the injuries, but also on the age of the person, the activities they carry out, their general health conditions and the state of the other tendons and shoulder joints”. explains.

WHAT TO DO?

Gizelly Bicalho explained that she is very focused on her recovery after surgery. Dr. Fabio clarifies the reasons that may lead a patient to undergo surgery when these ligaments are broken.

“The shoulder is equipped with several tendons that maintain adequate movement and function. When a partial rupture occurs in one of these tendons, the others compensate for function through rehabilitation, and in specific cases, surgical interventions are indicated. The tendon may remain partially broken without serious consequences”, states.

When the rupture is complete, Doctor Fabio evaluates that the surgical indication to repair this lesion should be taken into consideration, but he reinforces this indication, the characteristics of the person must be taken into account, among the factors he underlines: age, level of physical activity.

“For example, young people who regularly engage in more intense exercise and with acute (recent) ruptures are candidates for surgical repair of the tendon. With this, a complete recovery of function occurs. To answer whether there is a cure, there is not. Once broken, the tendon does not regenerate on its own but, since the body is intelligent, the other tendons begin to compensate for the function of the affected one.concludes Dr. Fabio illustrating the case of the former BBB Gizelly Bicalho.
