Why are women’s white hair so annoying in the job market?

Lisa LaFlamme, host of CTV National News, one of the most watched late night shows on Canadian television, has just been fired at the age of 58. The reason would apparently be that she stopped dyeing her hair, becoming a gray-haired woman.
Surprised, the woman turned to social media to tell her story, feeling fully fit to continue working for many years to come. The story caused a stir in many of her colleagues, who consider her a highly qualified and exemplary professional.
“Ageism and sexism, that’s what happened”, Says the president of the Brazilian Trichologists Society, dr. Luciano Barsanti.
The Brazilian doctor and trichologist says he receives, in his office, countless women who find themselves, on a daily basis, to fight hair injury, a subject that is talked about a lot, but about which little action is taken, especially in corporations.
“I have had patients who have lost their hair due to consecutive procedures, straightening, dyeing and other natures. The desperation of losing their jobs has led them to seek invasive methods, which have damaged them, ”she complains.
It’s time to accept gray hair
The non-acceptance of hair goes further, according to the doctor and the trichologist. “I receive about three children each week who undergo hair straightening procedures and suffer from scalp burns or develop severe allergies. Parents opt for these procedures due to the bullying their children undergo in schools. It is the exchange of one suffering for another, unfortunately », she warns.
For the president of SBTri, it is necessary to carry out massive and effective campaigns against prejudice, sensitize the population to the acceptance of hair.
“As long as there are no educational campaigns, we will continue to see prejudice flourish and put people’s health, physical and mental, at stake,” he concludes.
