The Minister of Health announces the repeal of the rules that ‘offend’ science

The former president of Fiocruz, Nísia Trindade, took office at the headquarters of the folder, in Brasilia, this Tuesday morning, 2

BRASILIA – The new Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, took office this morning of Tuesday 2, promising a “revocation” of the ministry’s rules that “offend” science. During the Jair Bolsonaro government, Healthcare was occupied by an ideological wing that defended, for example, the use of proven ineffective drugs against covid, such as chloroquine.

“The ordinances and technical notes that offend science, human rights, sexual reproductive rights and that have transformed several positions of the Ministry of Health into a conservative and science-denial agenda will be revoked in the coming days,” he said. “Our management will be guided by science, by dialogue with the scientific community.”

According to the minister, the list of regulations that will be revoked includes “every part of mental health that goes against the precepts we defend, such as humanization, the fight against asylum”. Nísia Trindade also said the ministry would reverse the “setbacks” in the “issue of women’s health”.

“Technical notes that contradict scientific guidelines such as the recommendation for the use of chloroquine, hydroxychloroquine, among other notes,” he added.

The ceremony was attended by the ministers of the Lula government: Alexandre Padilha (Institutional Relations), Luciana Santos (Science and Technology), Wellington Dias (Social Development), Ana Moser (Sport) and Esther Dweck (Management), Cida Gonçalves (Women) , Camilo Santana (Education) and Sonia Guajajara (Indigenous peoples).

Nísia Trindade and her secretary arrived at the appointment wearing masks against covid-19, but they took them off during the ceremony. The equipment had not been used by his predecessor, Marcelo Queiroga.
