The fabrics of our clothes can be our superhero or our villain when it comes to heat; better understand the topic
How hot, right? And with the summer season still far from over, it’s better to opt for garments made with fresh and breathable fabrics. But do you know which ones are ideal for this climate and which should be avoided? Next, stylist and fashion coordinator Stephanie Wengerkiewicz comments on the topic.
breathable options
According to the specialist, the best fabrics for warmth are those made with natural fibers. This is because they help the temperature exchange with the environment without retaining sweat on the skin. So the more natural and the less blended, the better.
“The best fabrics are silk, linen, cotton, viscose and tencel“, explains Stephanie. Among the fabrics that are good for the heat, silk satin is very fashionable, especially for skirts. Another trend of the moment is cotton, which is all the rage on the catwalks.
And which fabrics to avoid?
Unlike the natural fabrics mentioned above, there are materials that are not suitable for heat at all. An example is the “poly blends“.
“Polyester blends are synthetic fabrics made, above all, of polyester. Blends end up not bringing much comfort, since synthetic fabrics do not perform this function of breathing the skin with the environment in a natural and organic way, causing a slight discomfort during the day,” Stephanie says.
A stylist still raise the alarm for pieces that are made of cotton or linen on the outside, but have another material, such as polyester, on the inside. “The touch to the body ends up being the lining and not the outer fabric”, concludes the specialist.
See how simple it is? By remembering these tips, you’ll be able to shop for clothes and get through the heat with a lot less stuffiness!
