Singer Lily Allen has spoken publicly about her relationship with boyfriend Jonah Freud, confessing that she can be high maintenance in romantic relationships.

The 41-year-old pop star revealed details about her personal life during an interview with Perfect Magazine, explaining that she requires regular emotional validation from her partner.

Allen has been dating 29-year-old Freud for at least eight months. The romance marks her first serious relationship since her divorce from Stranger Things star David Harbour after four years of marriage.

Freud is the son of entrepreneur Matthew Freud and his ex-wife Caroline Hutton, as well as the nephew of the late celebrated British portrait painter Lucian Freud.

The couple were first seen kissing in December at Allen's celebrity-packed Christmas party at Stringfellow's, the famous nightclub venue in London. Since then, the pair have been spotted together on multiple public dates and holidays.

Validation and relationship dynamics

Speaking to Perfect Magazine, Allen declined to explicitly name her new boyfriend in the interview text, but opened up candidly about her behavior as a girlfriend.

"I'm high maintenance in a relationship. I'm like 'Do you love me?' 'Are you gonna leave me?' 'I'm ugly, aren't I?' I need a lot of validation," Allen said.

However, the singer clarified that she considers herself low maintenance in nearly all other aspects of her life.

"I pay for all my own sh*t. I do like to go to expensive restaurants but I never would ever expect anyone else to pay for it," she explained. "All of the finer things in life, I provide for myself. So that's not high maintenance. Unless we're talking about my own maintenance of myself. Then yes, 10. But to others, no."

Allen also emphasized that she is currently enjoying a drama-free period in her life after previously documenting her tumultuous marriage and messy divorce.

"There just aren't any dramas or funny anecdotes because I'm not going out and getting wasted any more. All I've done [recently] is been in venues and done this show. And yes, I've got a boyfriend," she said.

Backstage prank and search history

During the interview, Allen also brought up her boyfriend while discussing her personal position on adult content and pornography.

"There have been times when I've been a porn enthusiast. I'm not currently in one of those periods," Allen recalled.

She shared an incident that occurred backstage while she was preparing for a performance, admitting she attempted to play a joke on her team.

"I thought it would be really funny while everyone was getting ready to go to the toilet and put porn on and everyone would think I was secretly watching it in the toilet," Allen explained.

Her prank was scuppered by restrictive local Wi-Fi connections. However, the attempt led to an awkward moment with Freud later on.

"Then I was in bed with my boyfriend later and when he asked me to Google something, Pornhub came up on my search history and I tried to explain but it just didn't sound very believable," she confessed.

West End Girl tour and Harbour response

Allen is currently touring her acclaimed album West End Girl across venues in Europe and the United States. Unlike traditional concert performances, Allen presents the 14-track record as a theatrical play, featuring updated set pieces and new stage costumes.

Allen wrote the album over a 10-day period in December following her breakup with Harbour. The songs explore themes of extramarital activity and emotional manipulation, channeling her experience of the marriage's breakdown.

She previously clarified that the tracks contain a "mixture of fact and fiction," warning fans that the lyrics should not be taken as "gospel."

Harbour recently addressed the record in an interview with Variety, admitting that he found the album "weird" while defending his right to privacy.

"It was weird. I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that. I can't really say that much more, because it's my private life," Harbour told Variety.

The actor added: "In spite of the fact that a lot of people don't allow me a private life, I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won't speak about that."

Harbour concluded by stating that the album did not reflect his perspective of their marriage. "Stories are complex, and that's why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn't my experience," he said.
