Contestants on Maestros de la Costura Celebrity will compete for a place in the semi-finals on Wednesday, August 12, during the eighth episode of the Spanish fashion design competition on RTVE.
The broadcast airs on flagship channel La 1 immediately following the live televised coverage of the Teresa Herrera trophy football match between Deportivo La Coruña and Real Madrid.
The episode opens with a studio test focused on personal identity and cultural origins. Supported by visiting family members, the celebrity contestants must capture their cultural heritage and personal values in an original garment. Designer Juana Martin, a native of Cordoba and recent winner of Spain's National Fashion Design Award, will supervise the challenge alongside fashion designer Maria Escote, who will reinterpret one of her historic garments to reflect on her career in the industry.
Contemporary art challenge in Caceres
For the outdoor team challenge, the show travels to the Helga de Alvear Museum of Contemporary Art in Caceres, western Spain. The teams must create a bridge between fashion and fine arts by using two works by multidisciplinary artist Rosa Brun from the museum's collection as their visual templates. The outcome of this outdoor challenge will directly determine the first semi-finalists of the season.
RTVE, officially known as Corporacion de Radio y Television Espanola, is Spain's state-owned public broadcaster. Its main television network, La 1, regularly broadcasts prime-time entertainment formats alongside major sporting events such as the Teresa Herrera trophy, an annual football competition held in Galicia.
Palomo Spain returns for towel jacket test
The elimination round marks the return of fashion designer Alejandro Gomez Palomo, creator of the Palomo Spain label. Gomez Palomo served as a regular judge on Maestros de la Costura for seven years before returning for this guest appearance to oversee a sustainability challenge.
Contestants wearing the black elimination aprons must construct a structured jacket using recycled bath towels. The test will serve as the final examination deciding the last eviction from the competition before the semi-final round.
