Mahershala Ali Walks Away From Marvel’s Blade Reboot

Mahershala Ali has cut ties with Marvel’s long-stalled Blade reboot, telling GQ magazine he is ready to move on and stop fielding questions about the troubled project.

Ali said Marvel had billions of dollars at its disposal and that the film could have been made if the studio had shown enough determination. He added that he had been restricted by his contract with Marvel for a long time, and directed any remaining questions about the project to the studio.

The Blade reboot was announced in 2019. The script was rewritten twice and multiple directors left the project. The film was pushed back several times, leaving its future uncertain.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously said he considered himself a failure for not being able to get the film made.
