Peruvian feature film Mañana Me Caso, starring Flavia Laos, Mayra Goñi, and Alessandra Fuller, entered the national box office in sixth place with 2,200 viewers on Thursday, August 13.
Figures compiled by specialized film journalist Maykoll Calderón showed that the comedy faced an uphill battle on its opening day, competing against major Hollywood blockbusters and high-profile anniversary re-releases across cinemas in Peru.
Calderón, who reports weekly on theatrical attendance in the country, said the local production will need a significant attendance surge during its first weekend to guarantee staying in commercial theaters. He noted that other domestic films have struggled under similar conditions, pointing to Yidá Eslava's feature La habitación negra, which failed to connect with moviegoers during its run.

Directed and written by Pancho Tuesta, Mañana Me Caso reunites Laos, Goñi, and Fuller, who previously achieved widespread recognition as teen stars on Peruvian television. The narrative centers on three best friends whose celebration takes a dangerous turn on the wedding day of one of the women, when they discover that the bridegroom is the leader of a powerful drug cartel, initiating a frantic struggle for survival.
The ensemble cast also features Haydeé Cáceres, Joaquín de Orbegoso, Joaquín Escobar, Mayella Lloclla, Miguel Dávalos, and Vanessa Jerí. The comedy is currently being screened across major national multiplex chains, including Cineplanet, Cinemark, and Cinépolis, with multiple showtimes scheduled throughout the day.
Box office competitors and top rankings
August 13 marked a competitive day for Peruvian cinema halls, featuring the debut of Hollywood drama El final de la Calle Oak, starring Ewan McGregor and Anne Hathaway, alongside established box office hits.
Superhero blockbuster Spider-Man: Un nuevo día maintained its dominance at the top of the national chart, drawing 55,000 viewers at the start of its third week in release. Despite experiencing an attendance decline of more than 60 percent compared to the previous Thursday, the film has surpassed 2.6 million total admissions, solidifying its standing as the highest-grossing movie of the year in Peru, according to Calderón.
The film adaptation La Odisea secured second place in the rankings, while the 25th anniversary re-release of DreamWorks Animation's 2001 classic Shrek claimed third place after drawing nearly 17,000 attendees to theaters.
El final de la Calle Oak debuted in fourth position, followed by Insaciable in fifth. Mañana Me Caso took sixth place, ahead of animated sequel Toy Story 5 in seventh place, music feature KATSEYE: WILD HEARTS in eighth, Minions & Monstruos in ninth, and thriller Engendro rounding out the top ten.
