Manu Tenorio reclaims Cádiz property from squatters

Spanish singer Manu Tenorio has recovered his house in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, in the province of Cádiz, after a three-year struggle against squatter tenants who stopped paying rent and refused to leave.

The eviction was achieved on August 5 following a private settlement reached between Tenorio and the occupants through a specialized eviction firm, according to the singer's legal team.

The resolution came after the television program El verano se mueve, broadcast on Spanish channel Telecinco, dispatched a camera crew to the coastal property this week to document the clearance of the residence.

Financial strain and mental health struggles

Tenorio originally rented out the home in 2021, but the tenants stopped making monthly payments in May 2023. The situation left the performer facing severe financial strain alongside significant mental health problems.

During the more than three years he fought to regain control of his home, Tenorio experienced intense anxiety and required professional therapy. He also faced public criticism and revictimization after speaking out against the family occupying his home.

Slow judicial proceedings had failed to provide prompt relief, leaving Tenorio in a desperate situation as he awaited court intervention to recover his property.

Property destruction and trash removal

Removal workers who arrived at the Sanlúcar de Barrameda house on Tuesday reported that the property was left in a deplorable condition, with severe interior damage.

Workers loading furniture into a van stated that none of the household items could be salvaged. They explained that the tenants had broken the furniture and neglected the building, leaving the items fit only for disposal in garbage containers.

The extensive interior damage has added to the financial loss suffered by Tenorio throughout the non-payment period.

Impending legal action for damages

Tenorio's lawyer, Alfredo Arrién, confirmed that the singer is reserving the right to initiate new legal proceedings despite earlier court efforts proving slow and unsuccessful.

Arrién stated that the legal team does not rule out filing criminal charges for property damage after inspecting the ruined condition of the residence.

The attorney added that Tenorio will also pursue judicial claims to recover all unpaid monthly rent, as well as compensation for the emotional and psychological harm endured over months of uncertainty.
