Maria Ekmentsioglou recalls her husband sending 17 roses

Maria Ekmentsioglou shared a personal story from her time living in Istanbul about how her husband sent her 17 white roses every Thursday. Speaking in an interview with journalist Andreas Theodorou for Loipon magazine, Ekmentsioglou recalled her relationship with the Greek man who later became her husband and the father of her children.

In the interview, Ekmentsioglou first addressed flirting from both Greek and Turkish men. She said both nations flirt in a very polite way without any differences between them, adding that she has never experienced any of the monsters she hears and sees because she does not allow anyone who is not a gentleman to approach her.

Weekly roses in Istanbul

When asked about the most special gesture a man had ever made to approach her, Ekmentsioglou recalled the weekly delivery in Istanbul. She explained that her partner sent her 17 white roses every Thursday for an entire year because Thursday was the day they met. She noted that the number 17 was chosen because she was 17 years old at the time, adding that he stopped sending the flowers after they married.
