A matchstick brain teaser is making the rounds, and according to Ukrainian news agency UNIAN, only people with above-average IQ can solve it.
The puzzle presents the equation 3 + 3 = 8 built from matchsticks. Solvers must move exactly two matchsticks to make the equation correct, without adding or removing any pieces. UNIAN says only 10 percent of people with developed intellect successfully complete the challenge, and the time limit is 10 seconds.
The puzzle is described as enjoyable for the whole family and especially useful for children, since it trains attention, logic, stress resistance, and the ability to make quick decisions.
The solution requires two moves. First, take one matchstick from the plus sign and add it to one of the threes, turning it into a nine. Second, move the middle bar of the eight to the remaining three, also turning it into a nine. The corrected equation becomes 9 – 9 = 0.
