In 2015, Ant-Man brings a real breath of fresh air to Marvel’s superhero films thanks to its humorous script (signed by Gabriel Ferrari, Andrew Barre and master of self-mockery Adam McKay), a mix of genres (heist, science fiction). and comedy) and its extraordinary visual ingenuity (the use of 1.85:1 format to achieve the hero’s perfection, the reduction effect created using macro photography and motion capture… ). All this is due to the charm and elegance of Paul Rudd in the title role.
Faced with the success of this first opus, director Peyton Reed followed up with a sequel in 2018 called Ant-Man and the Wasp. If the tone of this new adventure is consistent with its predecessor and the theme of family remains central, the main change is the space devoted to female characters. Hope Van Dyne, aka The Wasp, played by Evangeline Lilly, is being put on true equal footing with her male partner – a first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Without forgetting the origin of the Wasp, Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the ghost, the main antagonist (Hannah John-Kamen) or Cassie (Abby Ryder Fortson), Scott Lang’s daughter.
Finally, visually, Ant-Man and the Wasp takes scale changes even more playfully, thanks to the undeniable skill of Shepherd Frankel, who manages to create ultra-realistic settings, especially for the stunning fight sequences, in which Ant-Man and the Wasp, in miniature, unfold in large-scale environments. All choreographed by George Cottle, to whom we owe Spider-Man Homecoming’s impressive stunts.
So tonight’s crunch session on TF1 is a must before we head off to discover the third installment in the franchise, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is currently showing.
