The General Price Index-10 (PGI-10) recorded a 0.05% increase in March, amid the decline in producer prices and a slowdown in consumer prices, with the 12-month accumulation going to lowest level in five years.
The monthly reading of the indicator released on Thursday by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) was in line with expectations from a Reuters poll, after a positive change of 0.02% in the previous month.
Thus, the PGI-10 accumulates a 12-month high of 1.12%, versus 2.26% in February, reaching its lowest level since March 2018 on this comparison basis.
The Broad Producer Price Index (IPA), which measures changes in wholesale prices and accounts for 60% of the overall index, fell 0.07% in March, after falling 0.14% the previous month.
According to André Braz, coordinator of price indices, the main contribution to the negative rate came from industrial products (from 0.10% to -0.32%), under the influence of petroleum products and biofuels (from -1. 07% to -2.33%). ). Also noteworthy are the decreases in Food Products (from -0.89% to -1.24%) and Chemical Products (from -1.58% to -1.69%).
The consumer price index (CPI-10), which accounts for 30% of the overall index, slowed its climb to 0.47% in the month, from 0.55% in January, down 1 .04% in Education, Reading & Leisure, after rising 1.51% in the previous month.
The National Construction Cost Index (INCC), in turn, rose 0.12% in March, versus 0.33% in February.
The PGI-10 calculates producer, consumer and civil construction prices between the 11th of the previous month and the 10th of the reference month.
