Joker 2: ‘Crazy’ photos of Lady Gaga re-enacting that unforgettable dance with Joaquin Phoenix

Joker: Folie à deux is not yet released. Indeed, it will be necessary to wait until October 2, 2024 to discover the sequel to the DC film that earned Joaquin Phoenix his first Oscar for Best Actor. But photos and videos from the set of Todd Phillips’ feature film offer little glimpses of it.

This is how, for example, Lady Gaga’s appearance in Harley Quinn was revealed. Or that today we will discover that the famous stairs in the Bronx, on which Joaquin Phoenix danced in one of the most memorable scenes of the first opus, will be present again.

Then I have to believe that, like the craziness of the title, there will be a song and dance for two of the Joker and his most famous accomplice. Because it’s good music scene which turns to this staircase where Arthur Flack was just practicing leg lifts, and the music that accompanied the scene was extradiegetic (external to the sequence in which we hear it).

And this is a good illustration of the change in tone of this set. If the first part corresponded to the New Hollywood way Taxi Driver’s character study, Folie à deux will be a musical comedy on the border between drama and detective film. However, we do not yet know what will be the main inspiration of Todd Phillips and his co-writer, Scott Silver.

But since the title refers to this psychiatric term, also the so-called “General Psychotic Disorder”, which describes a clinical situation in which a second in prolonged contact with a delusional subject engages in the same behavior, one might wonder if the musical numbers would not be an expression of their shared world view. A bit like in Birds of Prey, already with Harley Quinn. The answer is next fall.
