Three busy Debras on adult swimming: “We accidentally named all the characters Debra”

AlloCiné: Three Busy Debras is a totally insane and insane series, but tell us more!

Sandy Honing: It’s kind of a cartoon, but with live characters! I get the impression that we are in the Looney Tunes or SpongeBob registry, every week, with an episode that lasts 11 minutes and is not related to the previous or next episodes. It’s a unique comedy format.

Alice Stonoha: It is encouraging that we are three women who are restrained, completely crazy, instead of the male comics we are particularly accustomed to. We are proud to represent all the slightly crazy women around the world!

Mitra Johar: They said everything, nothing to add.

What challenges do you face every time you struggle with a new episode, do you imagine that it is not easy to constantly reinvent yourself?

Mitra Johar: The real challenge was telling a funny story that lasts for 11 minutes. It is really complex and not so simple in structure. We try to cover important topics in each episode.

Alice Stonoha: Another challenge is to create the environment in which we work. It is a world with many props, many physical delays, and it is not always easy to do everything perfectly with a limited schedule and budget, to shoot and manage only 10 to 11 minutes of editing, which will eventually appear on the screen. We are fortunate to have a film crew in Seattle that is well sophisticated and ready for anything.

Sandy Honing: We do everything in this series: from writing, to producers, to performance. It’s really tiring. I have even directed several episodes this season. We are really lucky to have so much creative control over this show, it’s a pretty unique situation in our business.

Tell us a little about the genesis of this series?

Mitra Johar: It really is a series that has emerged as a result of the perfect harmony of our sense of humor mind and collaboration, which are quite explosive and atypical. This is our first meeting dating back to 2015, when we recently arrived in New York. First we climbed together on the boards of the cafe-theater and the rest is history, as they say. We named all the characters Debra by chance.

Sandy Honing: Sometimes it is amusing to realize that in certain respects these debars are appropriate for women close to us. But we do not mean who should not be angry with them.

Mitra Johar: But first and foremost, we owe it to ourselves. They are exaggerated versions of themselves. We highlight certain aspects of our personality or physique that we do not like about ourselves. For example, my character is very desperate and he looks a bit like me in real life. This allows me to dispel this frustration by projecting it on its screen.

Sandy Honing: I’m the type of girl who wants to control everything, I’m a control freak and that ‘s what I’m putting into my debra.

Alice Stonoha: As for me, I’m an introvert, so my Debra may look cold, frostbitten. I’m not as emotional as my Debra, but I’m getting a little closer.

Finally what are your favorite themes in this series? What are you trying to express in this show?

Sandy Honing: It is important for us to take everything in life lightly. We want people to forget their daily lives with its varied gray.

Mitra Johar: exactly. I remember how we met late at night to write these episodes for dinner in New York. How nice it was to run, to forget the complexity and madness of real life. We really want to give you all the positive energy you need. That is the purpose of this show. Make people happy, make them laugh, help scroll the page …

Sandy Honing: Even if we do not think about messages or topics, it is hard not to admit that this is a series of women’s friendships, privileges and life’s funny things when we take ourselves too seriously.

Do you have any idea where you are going in this show?

Mitra Johar: Definitely not, we are improvising …

Alice Stonoha: I think you will see that at the end of this new season, anything is possible with the Debbie and that we are not ready to stop creating other episodes. We are very creative and love to share with the public all the crazy ideas that come to mind.

Sandy Honing: You have not completed our support! We will be on your screens for a long time to come. The word Debra!
