Warning, spoilers. The following paragraphs show plot elements from How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 11.
The How I Met Your Mother spin-off series How I Met Your Father is now in its second season, currently airing on Disney+. Told from the female point of view – Sophie (Hilary Duffy in her younger version and Kim Cattrall in her older version) – this spin-off follows the struggles of a group of friends in New York between their romantic failures, professional and family failures. , just like the original series.
The rest of the cast includes Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars), Francia Raisa (Grown Up), Suraj Sharma (Homeland), Tom Ainslie (Versailles) and Tien Tran (Space Force).
During episodes of How I Met Your Father, How I Met Your Mother fans have already had the pleasure of reuniting with iconic characters from the original series, such as Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders), Bartender Carl (Joe Neaves), Captain (Kyle McLachlan), Becky (Laura Bell Bundy), as well as TV host Sandy Rivers (Alexis Denisof).
What happened to Barney Stinson?
And in the eleventh episode of Season 2 of the spin-off series, available today on Disney+, viewers find Barney Stinson! The mythical character, played by Neil Patrick Harris, already made a cameo in the first episode of the second season, but Sophie explained that she would return later to meet Barney.
And it’s done now in this midseason episode. In this chapter, a young woman wonders who her biological father is and thinks it might be an older man she meets, the older Robert, played by John Corbett (who played Aidan on Sex and the City ).
Indeed, his mother Laurie, interpreted by Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds), told him that she met his father at the 1991 Lollapalooza festival, and Robert has a photo of that exact event with Laurie. Fortunately, more fear than harm, Lori confirms to Sophie that Robert is not her father, even though they have a good time during the festival. This information ends the relationship between Sophie and Robert.
Before she has any “good” news, Sophie has a car accident with a specific car: Barney Stinson! The latter is always the same… with one exception, he is equipped with an electronic bracelet that vibrates during questionable, sexist, perverted and problematic jokes.
After the fight, Barney thinks Sophie is an old invader who ran into him on purpose and gives a prepared speech: “My name is Barney Stinson, and I’m a recovering womanizer. We’re probably talking today because you’re the woman I tricked into believing an elaborate sex scheme. I understand. Why are you taking revenge on me?”.

So is Barney Stinson the new man? He and not. Barney no longer uses his schemes once listed in the role book, but he remains a seductress at heart. He offers Sophie not to pay for the car repairs if she tells him why she’s upset.
After hearing her story, Barney feels a certain connection to Sophie, as they both grew up without fathers. And there Barney will give valuable advice to the young woman. He explains that he finally found his father (a plot we see in “How I Met Your Mother”), but that didn’t solve his behavioral problems, his emotional lack, his fear of abandonment, and his commitment.
But the good news is that Barney is very involved in the education of his daughter Ellie, which he received in the last episode of “How I Met Your Mother”. He also explains that it was for him that he decided to change. Thanks to her meeting with Barney, Sophie decides to go in search of her biological father.
So How I Met Your Father Season 2 Episode 11 gives us some Barney news, even if it ends up being pretty sparse. Judging by the SUV model of his car and the fact that the collision happened in a suburban area, we can think that he became a father far from the celebration of the Big Apple, but there is nothing to confirm this.

The creators of the spin-off, Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, explained TV line That they didn’t want to reveal much about Barney out of respect for the character:
“We always want to make sure we stay true to the mythology — and hopefully give the fans some weird answers that answer some questions. But we also feel like he’s a character that has a place. So special in people’s hearts, and that’s Carter. And Craig’s creation , so if anyone needs to dig deeper into what’s going on with Barney, that’s up to them.
It’s about finding a balance between being respectful and honoring the character, but also not being too specific or going into details that we don’t think fit the character.”
While perhaps waiting for more information on Barney’s life, fans are hoping to see other iconic characters from the original series, such as Teddy (Josh Radnor), Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall (Jason Segel).
Season 2 of How I Met Your Father is now streaming on Disney+ and the entirety of How I Met Your Mother is available on Disney+.
