“Series of this quality, we want more”: This Netflix thriller captured subscribers within days of its release

It has barely reached the platform that it is placed in the top 10 most watched non-English language series in the world today. A few days ago, Netflix presented Diamants Bruts, a Belgian-Israeli co-production imagined by Rotem Shamir (director of Fauda) and Yuval Ifet. He is also a co-producer on the same team that signed Undercover, another Belgian Netflix series that has been acclaimed by subscribers.

The series introduces us to Antwerp’s world-famous diamond industry. When his younger brother commits suicide, Noah (Kevin Janssens) returns to Antwerp to find the family business on the brink of bankruptcy and under the control of the local mafia. Having turned his back on religion and started a new life in organized crime in London, he is desperate to save the Wolfsons’ business and protect the family’s legacy and honor. But for this he must first resolve conflicts with his brothers and sisters.

Without really reinventing the thriller genre, Diamants Bruts is incredibly effective, with its sophisticated image (not surprising when you know one of its creators worked on the famous Faud) and its impeccable cast. The series moves easily between Dutch, English and Yiddish and puts us in a particularly engaging gear.

Subscribers fell under its spell, as evidenced by the comments on the AlloCiné page:

“Awesome! So realistic and congratulations to Netflix and the series team, it replaces the rotten series that have no tail and no head” (Jenevepatr1979)

“A thrilling story about a family of Jewish diamond merchants from Antwerp. Congratulations to the screenwriters who have done a good job of crafting an engaging story. It’s just questionable casting in the person of Belgian Kevin Janssens (Noah Wolfson), who physically clashes with this Jewish family. Otherwise, all the ingredients are there to attract attention. Series of this quality, we want more on Netflix” (Agnes L.)

A wonderful series where we discover the closed circle of diamonds in the Orthodox Jewish community in Antwerp. Very realistic with great actors. (Carolyn Jonathan Cohen)

“We really liked this series with its unorthodox and Stiezel line. The actors are great, the story is very good. (Regis Poscent).

If the series is logically the first in the Belgian rating, in France it is “only” the sixth in the first place. But he should be gaining ground pretty quickly.
