This will be the third edition of the IMPACTE festival!

with the projection of Symphony for a new world, by Jordi Llompart, on May 3 at Cinenes Girona, the third edition of IMPACTE!, the Film and Human Rights Festival of Catalonia, was inaugurated. The Barcelona-based Cinemes Girona are once again the main venue for the event, and part of the programming can also be enjoyed, in different sessions, in Girona (Cinema Truffaut), Lleida (ScreenBox), Reus (Lectura Center) and Vilafranca del Penedès ( Sazie Room). The face-to-face screenings will take place between May 3 and 7, except in Reus, which will take place between May 11 and 13, and in Vilafranca del Penedès (on the 10th, 11th and 13th). A selection of titles will continue online until May 21 at Filmin (feature films) and at impactefilmfest.cat (short films).

With an eye on the so-called emerging rights, different topics related to human and even animal rights are covered, as is the case of freedom, by Phil de Witte, who reflects on what would happen if we locked people up like zoo animals, or (non) human person, by Álex Cuéllar and Rafa G. Sánchez. Emerging rights are those of which society has become aware over the years, and which raise, defend and claim citizenship, reinforcing participatory democracy.

In its varied national and international programming, problems such as anorexia and eating disorders are analyzed, in petrichor, by Victoria Morell Salom; autism, in extraordinary, of Constanza Figueroa; abuses by law enforcement, in The tourist against the French police, directed by filmmaker Ovidie; gender violence, in paraules of silence, by Gaël Faye and Michaël Sztanke, and also in Hotel Savoy, by Zohar Wagner; or LGTBIQ+ rights, in you fabulous, by Roberta Torre.

Other themes of IMPACTE! are migration, in What’s left on the way Jakob Krese and Danilo do Carmo; or environmental depredation, in Delicate, by Karl Malakunas. The right to mental health or armed conflicts will also be present in this new edition whose program can be consulted on the festival’s website (impactefilmfest.cat).
