The Under-20s’ win against Tunisia last Wednesday was marred by a case of racism involving Brazil defender Robert Renan. After the CBF asked Fifa for measures, defensive midfielder Marlon Gomes commented on the case and demonstrated all the support the group has given to the young player.
In the duel against Tunisia, for the round of 16 of the Under 20 World Cup, Robert Renan received a red card in a row for a foul committed by the Brazilian defence, in the 45th minute of the first half. As he left the field, the former Corinthians defender was booed by the crowd at the stadium and, in response, made the number five with his hand, in allusion to Brazil’s fifth world cup. After the match, the young man shared a series of racist attacks and death threats on social media.
