Dr. Quinn: Sally almost quit the show on the way!

In 1993, the American channel CBS made a risky bet to start broadcasting Dr. Quinn, The Doctor’s Wife, a series that has often been compared to Little House on the Prairie.

Over 6 seasons, viewers fell in love with Michaela Quinn (Jane Seymour), the daughter of a famous Boston doctor, who decided to leave everything to become a doctor in the small town of Colorado Springs. Then she had to fight against sexism, prejudice and intolerance in order to do her job as well as possible.

If the series quickly became a real phenomenon, it is primarily thanks to the epic love story of Michaela Quinn and Byron Sully (Joe Lando), a friend of the Cheyenne Indians, who very quickly breaks the heart of a newcomer.

And while the two characters will exchange rings in the Season 3 finale, their love story hasn’t always been a long, quiet river. In the first episode of season 6, Sally disappears. Michaela sets off with Daniel (John Schneider) in search of her husband, and along the way she sees white flowers that her companion doesn’t notice.

Only later, when he encountered a large concentration of these plants, did he find Sally in the bushes next to a huge boulder. Fortunately, the young man manages to survive his injuries. But did you know that the writers almost killed off Joe Lando’s character?

Sally almost died!

At the end of season 5, Joe Lando asked the producer to leave the series. So the writers planned to kill Sally by throwing her off a cliff. In turn, Danielle’s character, who was introduced in season 5, was supposed to become Dr. Mike’s new lover.

But due to the strong reaction of the fans, this decision was revised. Joe Lando decided to compromise. Sally eventually survived, but the comedian only appeared in half an episode of Season 6, which was also the last of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Lady.

The return of Doctor Quinn, a female Doctor?

In June 2021, at the Monte Carlo Television Festival, Jane Seymour confided on the microphone of Allocine that a sequel to Doctor Quinn, a female doctor, could soon see the light of day.

The sequel is being written. Beth SullivanWho created Doctor Who, wrote a great script about the next generation of characters“, he explained. We are not giving up, we hope we can convince the channel or streaming platform and the series will return.”

Unfortunately, more than two years after this interview, the project still hasn’t materialized…
