After Javier Bardem as Triton in the live-action version of The Little Mermaid, here’s John Cena as Ken the Mermaid in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. However, the actor, who was recently on the poster for Fast & Furious X, initially failed to play Ken.
While promoting Louis Leterrier’s film, the wrestler-turned-actor explained to the microphone today’s show That Barbie’s presence in the casting was due to the film’s star Margot Robbie.
The latter met Margot Robbie by chance when he was shooting a scene of Fast & Furious X on the set of Barbie.
He states: “It was a happy accident. Barbie and Fast X have a lot of parallels. The cast is impressive. So it was an opportunity for me to say, ‘Would you like to have me?’“

John Cena, who previously starred in the comedies Crazy Amy and Parental Control, adds: “I have never worked with Margo before. We met by chance and it was like we were friends. Fast X was filmed literally opposite Barbie. You know, Margot makes a lot of decisions about Barbie herself..”
