Tabitha Jackson steps down as director of the Sundance Film Festival

The Sundance Institute has announced that film festival director Tabitha Jackson will step down in two years.

Jackson will step down as Director of the Sundance Film Festival and Public Programming following the upcoming Sundance Film Festival: London. Today’s announcement was made by Joanna Vicente, Executive Director of the Sundance Institute, who in the meantime will lead the festival’s development and planning.

A public search is underway to find a replacement for Jackson, led by Vicente.

The promotion of programming director Kim Yutan to the institute’s senior management team was announced today. Leading the festival’s fifth year of programming, Utah now manages relationships between the industry and the artists.

Jackson has been nominated for his role in 2020, the role of John Cooper, who ran the festival for 11 years. He’s had a tough job running the festival during the COVID-19 pandemic. Jackson’s departure came a year after CEO Kerry Putnam resigned, which was eventually taken over by Vicente.
