With James starting, Dorival chooses San Paolo as a reserve to face Fortaleza

On Wednesday, at Morumbi, San Paolo will face Fortaleza, in the 24th match of the Brazilian championship. In view of the Copa do Brasil final, coach Dorival Júnior has decided to send a completely reserve team onto the pitch.

The big news is the presence of midfielder James Rodríguez as a starter. The Colombian will start for the second time with the tricolor shirt.

The main starters are on the reserves bench. Some of them, like Lucas and Calleri, weren’t even listed for the match.

Therefore São Paulo is scheduled with: Jandrei; Nathan, Diego Costa, Alan Franco and Welington; Luan, Gabriel Neves, Michel Araújo and James Rodríguez; Juan and Luciano.

The Tricolor has practically no absences for tonight’s duel, but has preferred to preserve its main athletes in view of the Copa do Brasil. Close to winning the national trophy in an unprecedented way, the club takes the field on Sunday against Flamengo, at 4pm (Brasilia time), at Morumbi, for the second decisive match. In the first leg, the team beat Rubro-Negro 1-0, with a goal from Calleri, at the Maracanã.

The victory in the Brasileirão, however, is fundamental for Sao Paulo. The team has not won the tournament for seven rounds and is just four points away from the relegation zone.

On the other hand, Fortaleza is enjoying themselves this season and occupies eighth place in the table, with 35 points. Leão do Pici is fresh from a 2-1 win over Corinthians last week.

The team led by Juan Pablo Vojvoda will play with the following lineup: João Ricardo; Tinga, Brítez, Titi and Bruno Pacheco; Zé Welison, Caio Alexandre and Pochettino; Marinho, Guilherme and Lucero.

The ball will roll soon, starting at 9.30pm, on the Morumbi lawn. The match referee will be Yuri Elino Ferreira da Cruz from Rio, assisted by Luiz Cláudio Regazone (RJ) and Lilian da Silva Fernandes Bruno (RJ). Carlos Eduardo Nunes Braga will be responsible for VAR.
