The family of Irish tourist Robert Patrick Byrne, who died in 2022 at the age of 27, will sue the Hospital de Faro, Portugal, for civil liability and moral damages. The lawyer responsible for the proceedings is the Brazilian Alexandre Martins. The information is from the newspaper The globe.

- Robert sought medical attention, but after three hours of waiting and without any progress, he left the hospital. Martins believes there is evidence that Irish has been “abandoned”. “He went to the doctor and was abandoned at the reception (…) The doctor had this doubt about the acute abdomen, so much so that he asked questions. I want to believe that the doctor put his hand on him and examined him. The doubt arose, he should have undergone a further examination in the surgical center. From what appears on paper, documented, he was examined by the doctor, who had this suspicion”, he explained to the newspaper.
Death in Ireland
- Robert’s return to Ireland was already scheduled for 18 June. On the 16th he sought medical attention and left the hospital after 3 hours. For the next 48 hours he lay in pain, with his friends, as they waited for the flight back to Dublin. Upon arrival at Gago Coutinho airport in Faro, he was also examined by local doctors, but his request to use a wheelchair was rejected. The Irish tourist also had to sign a liability release in which he guaranteed that he could travel.
