The production of the sequel to “Joker” acquires new and very unexpected details. According to The Hollywood Reporter, singer Lady Gaga is in early talks with Warner Bros. And no, this is not about the title song for the film, as was the case with the recently released blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick” with Tom Cruise, but about one of the main roles.

According to unconfirmed reports, Gaga will play the role of Harley Quinn, a former doctor in the Arkham psychiatric hospital, where the Joker ends up. This character was played by Margot Robbie in the 2016 and 2021 Suicide Squad films. Whether the filmmakers will change the character’s backstory is still unknown. The information that Quinn will be involved in the sequel is indirectly confirmed by its working title – Folie à deux (“Madness for Two”), which became known last week. While Warner Bros. has not yet signed a contract with the main actor – Joaquin Phoenix.

Also, the sources of the publication claim that the upcoming film, unlike the original, will be … a musical. However, there are no details about the number of songs and musical numbers in the picture. If the deal goes through, then director Todd Phillips will work with Gaga for the second time: before that, he produced the film A Star Is Born, where Germanotta played the title role.

Recall that in the first part of the “Joker” the creators seriously rethought the image of the main villain of the Batman films, explaining his behavior as a severe mental disorder that causes uncontrollable fits of laughter, and subsequently cruelty. The hero of Phoenix is ​​trying to survive in gangster Gotham, working as an animator clown and dreaming of a career as a stand-up comedian, but on his way he encounters unprecedented bullying. Such a Joker aroused the compassion of the audience, and, despite the lack of impressive special effects, the picture instantly paid off at the box office by almost 20 times.

The picture received 11 Oscar nominations and as a result was awarded two statuettes in the categories “Best Actor” and “Best Music for the Film”. The audience did not doubt the continuation, although Todd Phillips himself had previously stated that his film was a finished work.
