Out in theaters on November 29, La Tresse is an adaptation of the same novel written by Laetitia Colombani. The latter brings to the screen his own works published in 2017 and has sold more than 5 million copies.
The story takes us to 3 women who are going to fight. The first story takes us to India. The story follows Smita, an untouchable. She dreams of getting her daughter out of her miserable condition and into school.
Then we will leave for Italy. Giulia works in her father’s workshop. When he crashes, he discovers that the family business is in ruins. Finally, we end this trip in Canada.
Sarah, a famous lawyer, is about to be promoted to head of her firm when she learns that he is ill. Three lives, three women, three continents. Three battles to fight. Although they don’t know each other, Smitha, Julia and Sarah bond without knowing what is most intimate and unique about them.
Did the first audience appreciate La Tresse? If the press gave it an average rating of 2.4 out of 5, the public clearly won. Indeed, with a score of 4.1 out of 5 (208 ratings on average), Laetitia Colombani’s feature film convinced the first curious people who visited the cinemas.
“This touching and very well done choral movie is a marvel. I loved the novel, the movie lived up to my expectations”, points out Judithtexas. On the other hand, Coric Bernard also won: “The very different stories of these three women, unfolding on three continents, are beautifully intertwined and manage to move us. This film is also an invitation to travel to India, Italy and Canada.”
I think we are in for one of the best movies of 2023 without any hesitation!
Allofer is also very enthusiastic: “I think we are in for one of the best films of 2023 without any hesitation! What a special film! An untitled beauty! Everything is mastered: be it the trio of actors, which is outstanding, the stage set as well. Like the photography, which is brilliant, and the sublime music of Ludovico Einaud.”
Capirex is also very touched by La Tresse, which he thinks is “A great work of Laetitia Colombani and a beautiful lesson in humanism. We can only be inspired by these beautiful portraits and this moving destiny”He believes.
If the majority of the first viewers really liked the feature film, some bring some nuances. “The three actors are outstanding (special mention to the lovely and sunny Italian), but the story from the book is stitched together. The production is flat, and the invasive tearful music makes the film pathos.”
It’s predictable, well-formatted, and really feels good.
Ourouty also appreciates La Tresse “Predictable, structured and oozing with really good feelings. We can feel the connection between the 3 characters coming from a mile away”– this viewer tells us. All eight are mixed: “The script holds up. The part shot in India is particularly successful, as are the pictures shot in Italy. The plot for the Canadian part is more reminiscent of a bad TV movie, but the characters move.”
The Braid hits theaters on November 29th, so go ahead and make up your own mind if you want.
