Preta Gil underwent surgery on Thursday (30/1) to remove the ileostomy bag, which she carried with her during treatment for bowel cancer. The singer’s consultant updated her health status this morning (1/12). The intestinal tract reconstruction procedure was successful.
“To all who love Preta, the surgery to reconstruct the intestinal tract and reverse the ileostomy was very successful. Preta is doing well and recovering in the intensive care unit. She is expected to go into semi-intensive care soon. Thank you for your love, prayers and usual concern. Now she is here to talk to you,” the team said on Instagram.
Previously, Preta had commented in another publication on the period in which he needed to use the device. “I took this photo yesterday (11/29), it wasn’t sunny, but I wanted to take one last photo with my ileostomy bag, which has helped me so much over the last three and a half months. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to use it while my body healed,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“At first it was very difficult, but when I realized that she had saved my life, I changed my relationship with her, and yes, we became best friends. In these 3 months I discovered a world that I didn’t know, the world of ostomates, where I came into contact with many people who had or were having the same experience as me and I realized how stigmatized this topic was, how much prejudice, how much misinformation there is.”
