Star Wars: the director celebrates the first film in the series with a female director

A new Star Wars film will premiere in 2026 and will be the first in the series directed by a woman. According to Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, responsible for directing the film, which will see the return of Rey (played by Daisy Ridley), “it’s about time” this happened.

The new film in the series may have already received the official title and synopsis. According to the new edition of Production Weekly, the production sheet was titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order.

The file also includes a synopsis: “Set 15 years after Rey’s victory against Palpatine at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the sequel explores Rey’s courageous effort to restore the Jedi Order, where she takes on the role of mentor of two promising young students: a girl and a boy. As her education progresses, it becomes evident that she possesses extraordinary abilities, destined to become the future leader.”

This is the same description released in April 2023 along with the announcement of Ridley’s return to the role. The new Star Wars film focusing on Rey will premiere on May 22, 2026.
