Paramount Pictures has confirmed that the next film Star Trek it will be a prequel (i.e. an origin film). The film, whose name has not yet been revealed, will begin production later this year and is scheduled to hit theaters in 2025.
The new Star Trek film was just one of many that the studio confirmed as part of its 2025/2026 schedule at its CinemaCon presentation. Paramount Pictures CEO Brian Robbins was present at the event, held in Las Vegas, US.
In addition to the prequel which will be released in 2025, Paramount Pictures is developing a new film in the franchise. However, the production has encountered some difficulties and is unlikely to be ready before 2026, when Star Trek’s 60th anniversary will be celebrated.
The last film in the series was Star Trek: Without Bordersreleased in 2016. Many rumors about new productions subsequently surfaced, but to date none of them have moved forward.
