The defender claims that coach Artur Jorge has bet on his height and plays on the flanks to try to avoid defeat at the Nilton Santos Stadium
Botafogo lost 2-1 against Bahia, Sunday evening (5), at the Nilton Santos Stadium, in the fifth round of the Brazilian championship. When the team conceded the second goal, coach Atrur Jorge played defender Alexander Barboza, but as a center forward. After the match, the Argentine explained the coach’s idea to put him out of position.
“We want to win. Always win. And the coach noticed that the team was making a lot of crosses into the box. There were also a lot of corner kicks. So he decided to field me as a striker. There was only Junior Santos there and he had some wanted to add another”, informed the defender.
Barboza’s height helped in the decision
1.93m tall, Barboza is usually good in the air and annoys opposing defenders. This Sunday, however, the strategy ended up not working, as Botafogo left the field without obtaining at least a draw. Finally, the player clarified whether his entry, on the contrary, caused tactical problems for the rest of the team.
“It hasn’t changed. Plus everyone was in their place. And we created good chances, we got a lot of fouls. Plus I think we conceded a penalty. We’ll see later,” he concluded.
