In a recent interview with GQ, director Zack Snyder talked about this scene and gave his take on why he chose to include it in the film.

“When [el guionista] Chris Terrio and I were talking about it, he said, “You know their mothers have the same name. Snyder continuó explicando cómo este descubrimiento afecta a Batman en el clímax de su confrontación con Superman. “¿Qué más podría decirle a Batman, sosteniendo la lanza de kryptonita a punto de hundirla en su corazón? ¿Qué le dirá para convencerlo de que su amor por la humanidad es tan alto como el de Batman? Quiero decir, realmente, [Batman] I could kill him in a second, literally a second, so I thought, “Okay, he’s got to do all the tricks possible.”
