Actor Hugo Speer will no longer reprise the role of “The Full Monty” in the series based on the 1997 film. He was fired from the Disney + production after being charged with “misconduct”.

The 53-year-old British actor was hired to reprise the role of Guy – alongside other former co-stars including Robert Carlyle as Gaz and Lesley Sharp as Jean – in the miniseries that will pick up the story 25 years after the hit comedy. .

Disney + released a statement claiming it was removed following an internal investigation. “We were recently notified of allegations of inappropriate conduct by Hugo Speer on the set of a commissioned production. As per practice, an investigation was initiated. Upon its conclusion, the decision was made to terminate his contract, with immediate effect”.

According to the British newspaper The Sun, during the recording he would have invited a woman from the production to enter his trailer while he was naked.

A spokesman for the actor said: “Hugo denies all allegations and is challenging them all.”

Production on the series began in late March, and as a result Speer must have shot a few episodes.

The plot will rediscover the original characters, who, when they became unemployed in Sheffield, England, in 1997, managed to make money on a male striptease show. The plot must welcome veterans alongside a new generation, victim of the economic impact of the coronavirus.

The series was born from an idea of screenwriter Simon Beaufoy, nominated for an Oscar for the original film, and will also see the participation of the film’s producer, Uberto Pasolini.

Still without a preview date, “The Full Monty” (original title) will be shown by Star + in Brazil and the rest of Latin America. In other countries, the attraction will air on Disney +, with the exception of the United States, where it will be part of Hulu’s programming.
