In 2002, a few years before he made a name for himself as Alcide Hervo, the werewolf on HBO’s True Blood and before he became one of the stars of Magic Mike, Joe Manganiello starred in Sam Raimi’s very first Spider-Man. Tobey Maguire was in the iconic role.
He portrayed Flash Thompson, a high school villain who ends up fighting in the facility’s hallways with Peter Parker after the latter accidentally throws food on his back while he struggles to control his budding cafeteria powers. Remember, this takes place after the famous scene where Peter meets Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) and all the contents of his set, in a more famous sequence without special effects that required more than 16 hours of filming!
And it was Flash Thompson, dressed in his now stained striped polo shirt, who found Peter Parker in the hallways of the high school, ready to fight, as you can see in the video below.
But according to Joe ManganielloWhile he was on set, a crew member offered him $100 for a shot. Tobey Maguire On the face of it, an anecdote that the actor told in 2014 during the Pete Holmes Show.
“There was a guy on the team who came up to me and said, ‘Listen, I’ll give you a hundred dollars if you accidentally punch him in the face.’“, he recalled. “A few other guys were there.”
At the time, the 24-year-old didn’t accept the offer, but did he think about it? The presenter asked him this question.
“I would probably never work again“, he answered Joe Manganiello.
A wise decision for an actor whose career has taken off since then. Some people know him as Alcide Ded Real blood Or “Big Dick” from Rich Magic Mike, whose last installment, Magic Mike: Last Dance, was released last year. Or if you’re a true fan, you also know him as Brad Morris in How I Met Your Mother and of course Slade Wilson aka Deathstroke from Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Spider-Man (2002) and Spider-Man 2 (2004) are available to stream on Netflix. For Spider-Man (2007) we’ll have to turn to VOD.
