The game
Thus, for a place in the decision, the two-time WTA 1000 champion from Doha clashed with the pair formed by Romanian Monica Niculescu and Spanish Cristina Bucsa. In the match, the opponents got off to a great start and dictated the pace of the match. In the first game, Niculescu/Bucsa broke Setefani/Schuurs’ serve. The two Brazilians almost responded in the next game, but were denied break point.
Luisa’s pair still needed three break points to confirm the first and only game of the duel, but the effort was in vain. The Romanian and the Spaniard managed to break the opponent’s serve twice more, closing the set at 6/1. The highlight of the set were first serve points from Niculescu and Bucsa, who were successful at 89% (8/9).
The second set also started differently, but had the same result. Luisa Stefani and Demi Schuurs took the lead with a break in the third game, but suffered a draw in the next game. However, the Brazilian and the Dutch led the set again, with a break that opened 4/3. However, Niculescu and Bucsa fought back and finished the match at 7/5.
