Warning, this article contains spoilers for The Flash Season 8, which has not yet been released in France. If you don’t want to know anything, don’t read!
Fans of The Flash didn’t notice: Candice Patton, who plays Iris West-Allen, has been absent since Season 8, Episode 4, which just finished airing in the United States.
Episode 14 actually ended with the disappearance of his character, who has been suffering from the “time sickness” since season 7. The team’s efforts to find him were unsuccessful, but he finally appeared in the final episode of the season… in 2049.
At the end of the final episode, he managed to return to 2022 and managed to find Barry (Grant Gustin) in time to convince him not to cause Armageddon during his confrontation with the Reverse-Flash.
If Iris’ absence in these four episodes made sense from a scripting point of view, it still intrigued fans of The Flash. So Candice Patton decided to clarify the situation via an Instagram story posted last Friday.
He explained that his absence was negotiated during the signing of the contract for season 8, the actor had many concerns about the closure of the borders between the United States and Canada related to the Covid epidemic. .
In the end, he didn’t need this early leave, but the screenwriters, who had already created plots around his absence, decided not to change them.
“My contract for Season 8 was written by my team and I to protect me in the event that the borders between Canada and the United States are closed (making it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to return to the United States – which is most important to me)“- writes Candice Paton.
“My team and I made it clear during negotiations, at the time of signing and throughout the season that if the coronavirus and border situation is still favorable around the summer/fall of 2021 (and it was clear from the beginning that it would be), I would be happy to play in any episode. They made a decision not to change the scripts, which I respect!“.
The showrunner of The Flash, Eric Wallace, wanted to reassure fans of the series. In an interview with ComicBook.com, he explained that Iris and Barry will have “Many, many moreSpending time together in season 9.
The first 6 seasons of The Flash are available in their entirety on Netflix. Seasons 7 and 8, still unreleased in France, will be released soon on SYFY.
