Professional editor, Marcia Griffin, and Lucas had a huge impact on the first Star Wars trilogy as we know it. He even played a role in the Indiana Jones saga.

Marcia Lucas works alongside George Lucas as editor of Star Wars, the first opus to be released, but the fourth in chronological order of the saga. She also helps him with some script ideas: we owe him, among other things, the death of Obi-Wan Kenobi or the kiss Leia gave before the final battle.

First of all, he works in the editing room, especially the Death Star attack scene. It pulls everything together to give a real sense of tension that is sorely lacking in the script. According to him, if the audience isn’t cheering for Han Solo’s late arrival, it’s because the scene isn’t working.

It is his editing that saves A New Hope, which received poor reviews in test screenings, and is considered the savior of the first Star Wars. He would also be featured in (often uncredited) edits of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. He won with Paul Hirsch and Richard Chew Oscar for Best Editing for Star Wars in 1978.

At the same time, Marcia Lucas is working on Francis Ford Coppola (Rain People), Martin Scorsese (Alice Ain’t Here Anymore, Taxi Driver and New York, New York) and other George Lucas films: THX 1138, as well as two American films Graffiti (because yes, There is a sequel!).

In Raiders of the Lost Ark, it was Marcia Lucas who encouraged Steven Spielberg to include the character of Marion Ravenwood in the first Indiana Jones. A woman in the shadows who deserves to be remembered for her name and her main influence.
