Elle Fanning is more disturbing than ever in this shocking series! This is a girl from Plainville

Adapted from Jesse Barron’s Esquire article, “The Girl From Plainville” and inspired by the true story of Michelle Carter, the young woman who sent macabre text messages leading to suicide. The miniseries explores Carter’s relationship with Conrad Roy III, as well as the events leading up to the latter’s death and, later, the young woman’s conviction for manslaughter.

The Girl from Plainville, TV series created by Liz Hanna and Patrick McManus.

2017, Massachusetts, USA. A 17-year-old girl, blond, with light eyes and thick eyebrows, goes to juvenile court. Her name ? Michelle Carter. She is accused of killing her boyfriend three years earlier in 2014. Hundreds of text messages exchanged with the victim, Conrad Roy, 19, are evidence. At the end of the trial, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison – including 15 months suspended.

Five years later, this drama becomes an eight-episode series, The girl from Plainville. As Michelle Carter, Elle Fanning delivers her most complex, nuanced and terrifying role yet. These reconstructions appear on screens at a time when true crimes have never been more popular. It is impossible not to have opportunism there, of course, but despite everything, The girl from Plainville Avoids the voyeuristic and sensational fantasy in which many series of the genre rush.

Problems that are still very stigmatized today.“From the very first episode, the series explores the inner demons of two teenagers, Conrad (Colton Ryan) and Michelle. One is suffering from depression and the other is desperately trying to survive in the eyes of young people his age.

The team had access to text messages and authentic testimonies to investigate every corner of the case. “All to show that Michel was as disturbed as Conrad“- adds the showrunner. These elements were also essential to El Fanning, who made his interpretation of these documents.

despite The girl from Plainville Never justifying the unbearable actions of Michelle Carter, the latter is never shown as a mere monster. “It’s too easy to put a black hat on him and call him evil. She was a sick young woman, and Elle Fanning was able to delve into thatexact Patrick McManus. There are times when you want to hate him and there are times when you put yourself, even just a little, in his shoes..”

Another major theme in the series focuses on impunity in virtual exchanges. It is obvious to the creator: “Cell phones put up a wall where you think you’re living in your own space, when in reality you’re exposing yourself and not knowing how it affects someone else.”
