Lost is known inside out by its fans, known as “Losties,” but even some of them have never seen the pictures. This is a short video released to fill the break between seasons 3 and 4 of the series.
This new scene takes place before the show’s official pilot and can therefore be considered an alternate introduction to the series.
The visual quality isn’t really there, as the standards weren’t the same in 2007 as they are today, but if you squint, the video looks great, and fans have provided French subtitles that can be activated next to the cogwheel in this player:
Set on an island, we find Dr. Christian Shephard (Jack’s father, played by John Terry) making a request to Vincent, the labrador we see again regularly throughout the series.
Christian Shephard is a recurring character in the series, mostly seen in flashbacks after he is dead and in a coffin carried by the heroes’ plane when the series begins.

At the time of this introduction, it is still unknown that Christian is possessed by a mysterious magical creature called the Black One, which probably explains why the dog understands perfectly what he asks of him.
This short sequence is completely consistent with series continuity and ties in nicely with the official opening of the pilot, when Jack wakes up in a bamboo forest after Oceanic Flight 815 crashes.
