This is the Bia we know! In the early hours of this Sunday (1st), Beatriz Haddad achieved another great victory of her career. The Brazilian beat the Russian Anna Kalinskaya, number 15 in the world, by 2 sets to 0 (6/3 and 6/X) and qualified for the round of 16 of the US Open.
Number 1 in Brazil and 21st in the WTA ranking, Bia Haddad is already making her best appearance ever at the American Slam. After coming from behind to win her debut against Elina Avanesyan, Bia produced one of her best performances of the year by defeating Sorribes Tormo and reaching an unprecedented third round of the US Open. She has now repeated her good performance against Anna Kalinskaya and has secured her place among the 16 best players of the tournament.
This was the first time that Haddad and Kalinskaya participated in WTA tournaments. Moreover, the comparison had a special flavor since both tennis players were aiming to reach the round of 16 of the US Open for the first time. The one who did well in this story was the Brazilian.
Anna Kalinskaya started the match even better and opened the match by breaking the Brazilian’s serve. The Russian tennis player wasted three break points in the third set, missing the opportunity to score a big advantage. Bia, however, responded well and looked for two breaks to win the first set.
In the next set, a show by Bia Haddad. Confident, the Brazilian was able to react in adverse moments, managing to defend four break points in the second game of the set. In the sequence Bia conceded three service breaks to close the match in style.
