This is how they created Cassandra Nova’s scary fingers in ‘Deadpool 3’: they didn’t use CGI

The production of ‘Deadpool 3’ is keeping various secrets and one that has just been revealed that relates to the audience is the strange fingers of Cassandra Nova, the villain of the plot and the twin sister of Charles Xavier.

How did Cassandra Nova’s weird fingers make it in ‘Deadpool 3’?

It turns out that this character is characterized by extremely long fingers and, for the film, they wanted to preserve this important detail. However, these were not created with CGI, the technology common in superhero movies, nor were the actual fingers of actress Emma Corrin, who plays Cassandra. So how was this very realistic result achieved?

The special effects team Deadpool 3 revealed that a hands-on and creative approach was taken to bring these unusual fingers to life. It was decided to use custom-made prosthetics, designed specifically for the character. These were created by a team of make-up experts who worked closely with the costume designers to ensure that the fingers looked as natural as possible, yet strange and subtle due to their length.

The application process during preparation was thorough. Each day of filming, the actress spent several hours in the make-up chair while experts carefully placed the prosthetics on her hands. The makeup artists were responsible for not only making sure the prosthetics adhered well, but also blending the skin textures and tones perfectly so that there were no visible differences on screen.

In an interview with USA Today, Corrin explained that wearing the braces was very uncomfortable, as it was difficult for him to carry out daily activities with them on.

“I just couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t be on my phone, which was great for screen time, but terrible for going to the bathroom because I could never go on my own. I always needed someone to help me because I could.” don’t touch anything.”

Scenes where CGI was used on Cassandra Nova’s hands

But in the opposite way, CGI was used when Cassandra was going through the skulls and faces of her enemies to read their minds. For example, when describing the process, the visual effects team experimented with different thicknesses of skin and eventually chose a thinner skin to ensure viewers could better appreciate the details of his hands. His knuckles were visible through the skin of the other characters, which added a lot of realism to the scenes.

This whole process was done using keyframes, which helped them figure out which part needed to be replaced or removed. When the main part of the animation was completed, the visual effects team moved on to visualizing small details.
