New film by Walter Salles (Central do Brasil), which will compete for a spot in the biggest award in cinema, will premiere in November

Following the announcement that I’m Still Here will represent Brazil in the competition for the Best International Film award at Oscar 2025Sony Pictures has announced the release date for the new feature film Walter Salles (Central Brazil) in Brazilian cinemas.

What is the story of I’m Still Here?

Based on the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, I’m Still Hereis set in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1970s, amidst the military dictatorship, and tells the story of Eunicea mother of five, who becomes embroiled in an endless search for the truth after her husband, Rubensbe taken away by plainclothes police officers and disappear.

The film stars Fernanda Torres (End) and also has Fernanda Montenegro (The Invisible Life), Selton Mello (The Movie of My Life), Maeve Jinkings (Toll), Antonio Saboia (Private Destination), Humberto Carrao (Marighella) and Marjorie Estiano (Under pressure) in the cast. Watch the trailer:

After the premiere in Venice, the British newspaper The Guardian defined I’m Still Here as “a dark and heartfelt drama about the country’s missing”. The vehicle also highlighted the “amazing performance” of Fernanda Torreswhich interprets Eunice.
