We will have to wait until 2026 before we discover the first season of the Harry Potter series, which will follow the first part of the saga: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. This new version will feature new performers and the production is now auditioning all the young actors and actresses in the UK to find the new Harry, Ron and Hermione!
Jack Rowling will appear in the credits of the series, but…
While it was confirmed that this new adaptation would be more faithful to the novels than the films, many wondered what J.K. Rowling’s role in this project. The Scottish auteur will of course be credited as an executive producer due to his status as creator of the story and characters.
However, his participation in the series will be limited to this credit, as confirmed by a studio official at Warner Bros. Discovery, Robert Obershelp. Thus, the latter revealed that J.K. Rowling was not involved in the production of the program, but she was kept informed of the progress of the project through her literary agent.
It’s never been announced as such, but everything seems to suggest that comments made by JK Rowling as transphobic are at the root of the decision. The author’s recent positions have earned him a lot of criticism, especially from the iconic actors of the Harry Potter films, such as Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.
Depending on the saga, other projects will see the light of day
The saga has no shortage of projects, however, with a Harry Potter cooking show hosted by James and Oliver Phelps (the Weasley twins) coming soon to the Max platform. Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley) and Evana Lynch (Luna Lovegood) will play the roles of judges for this televised competition.
The project that raises the most expectations among fans of the franchise is, of course, the sequel to the video game. The Hogwarts Legacy. Especially since it has been confirmed that this new opus will have a direct connection with the Harry Potter series!
On the other hand, we should not count on the fourth installment of Fantastic Beasts. The third film’s poor box office results and J.K. Rowling’s recent controversial positions seem to have convinced Warners to abandon the Harry Potter prequel franchise.
The Harry Potter series is expected in 2026 exclusively on Max, which is also available with a Canal+ subscription.
