Airing on the MAX platform from November 18, Dune: Prophecy is the prequel series of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune film franchise. This universe is expanding to the small screen after the success of the first two films, directed by Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya, among others.

Before the third installment of Dune begins production, scheduled for 2026, the public will learn more about the origin of this universe’s mythology with this spin-off, consisting of 6 episodes, carried by a high-flying cast, including Emily Watson (Chernobyl). Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Mark Strong (Kingsman), Olivia Williams (The Crown), Sarah-Sophie Busnina (1864), Chris Mason (Broadchurch) and Jodie May (The Crown). Witcher) and Josh Heuston (Hartley, Hearts on Raw).

The series takes place in the future, where humanity has traveled to a galaxy of a thousand planets. We follow a mysterious sorority called the Bene Gesserit, who navigate between political struggles and the imbroglios of the Imperium, pursuing their very specific goal, which will lead its members to the mysterious planet Dune…

What novels inspired the Dune: Prophecy series?

The series “Dune: The Prophecy” lifts the curtain on some of the mysteries of the cinematic saga, especially surrounding the Bene Gesserit. As a spin-off of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films, the series is clearly inspired by Frank Herbert’s literary work Dune.

But that’s not all. Dune: The Prophecy is also inspired by the novel Society of Sisters Brian Herbert (son of the author of the original Dune literary series) and Kevin J. by Anderson.

It was published in 2012, then translated into French the following year. Society of Sisters is the first volume in a trilogy called “Dune, The Origins”, which predates the original Dune saga written by Frank Herbert, but which follows the “Dune, Genesis” trilogy.

The novel returns to the birth of the Bene Gesserit and the coming of the Reverend Mothers. Eighty-three years after Corinne’s battle and the end of the thinking machines, Raquella Berto-Anirule survived a poisoning attempt. But she emerges transformed: possessing the memories and mental presence of her female ancestors. She is the first Reverend Mother…

The series is loosely inspired by the novel and tells the origin of the Bene Gesserit, but it focuses on a specific period and main character: Valia Harkonnen, who will revolutionize the Bene Gesserit order and bring it irreversible behavior.

The series “Dune: Prophecy” is currently airing in France on the MAX platform.
