Disney + American has shared the poster, the first teaser and the behind the scenes of “National Treasure: Edge of History”, a series inspired by “The Legend of the Lost Treasure”. While the first video highlights actress Lisette Olivera (“Total Eclipse”) as the new protagonist, in the atmosphere of “Indiana Jones”, the second reveals that Harvey Keitel is back in the franchise, reprising the role of the agent of the FBI Peter Sausky.
Keitel joins Justin Bartha, who returns to play Riley Poole, the best friend of adventurer Benjamin Gates (Nicolas Cage), previously confirmed in production. The participation of both acts as a link between the films and the new attraction.
The new protagonist is called Jess Morales. Olivera’s character is a bright and resourceful young Latina who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and rescue a lost Pan-American treasure.
In this adventure, she is accompanied by her best friends, played by Zuri Reed (“The Get Down”), Antonio Cipriano (“The Sex Life of College Students”), Jordan Rodrigues (“The Fosters”), Jake Austin Walker (” Stargirl “)”), an FBI agent played by Lyndon Smith (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”) and the mysterious character of Catherine Zeta-Jones (“The Legend of Zorro”). The veteran actress plays Billie, a huntress of billionaire treasure that helps turn penniless orphan Jess into a successful adventurer and business woman.
The project was developed by the film’s writers, the couple Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, and is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of the film franchise. In addition, Indian director Mira Nair (“The Reluctant Fundamentalist”) directs the first few chapters.
It is worth noting that Disney is also developing a new film with Nicolas Cage as Benjamin Gates, with plans to release “The Legend of the Lost Treasure 3” in 2024.
