Plane explodes in South Korea causing dozens of deaths

The accident occurred at Muan airport

A plane with 181 people on board exploded after crashing into a wall at Muan airport, South Korea, killing at least 47 people this Sunday morning (29), local time.

The plane of the South Korean low-cost airline Jeju Air came from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, and was traveling with 175 passengers (173 South Koreans and two Thais) and six crew members.

At least two people – a passenger and a crew member – were rescued alive, but the death toll is still expected to rise.

A video of the crash shows the plane traveling down the runway at high speed, with its belly scraping along the ground and its landing gear deactivated, until it hit the wall and exploded.

The plane is suspected to have been damaged by a collision with a flock of birds during landing, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap. .
