Suarez participates in the rescue of a man who allegedly committed suicide in Uruguay


The man climbed the mast after 11pm on Friday, but it wasn’t until 5.30pm on Saturday that the Navy reported being able to get him down

The former Grêmio center forward, Luis Suárez, scored a great goal, now out of the field. He participated in the rescue of a man this Sunday who attempted suicide in Uruguay.




According to the local press, the 49-year-old man climbed a six-meter tree at night with a rope around his neck and threatened to commit suicide if his partner did not show up on Saturday 4 January, in the afternoon, almost twenty hours after and after negotiations with the police and members of the army.

On Saturday morning Luis Suárez and his wife Sofía Balbi were present at the scene, filmed by Channel 4 Uruguay. The footballer, who is on holiday in Uruguay, has a house nearby and ended up intervening in the negotiation.

The man climbed the tree after 11pm on Friday, but it wasn’t until 5.30pm on Saturday that the Navy reported that it had managed to get him down.

According to ‘DSports Uruguay’, the man even threatened to take his own life if his wife did not show up on site, but with the help of Luis Suárez and the rescue team he ended up backtracking on the threat and getting off the the tree safely.

The accident occurred in Ciudad de la Costa and there are images of the moment the rescue team intervened.
