The San Diego Comic-con has given us some more clips from the long-awaited series, and an appearance that many expected, that of the Dark Lord.
Even more spectacular images of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ have been released this month! After an enigmatic trailer teasing conflict in Middle-earth arrived in early July, another trailer for ‘The Rings of Power’ landed during the Amazon Prime Video series’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con last Friday. .
The most intriguing part of this footage is that Pistol’s Anson Boon appears as one of the physical manifestations of the Dark Lord Sauron, spreading evil and terror throughout Middle-earth. In short, the return of the iconic villain of ‘The Lord of the Rings’.
The most expensive television series ever made explores a never-before-told story set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, a time of relative peace for the various tribes. The series will explain why this peace was broken and how the greed for the Rings of Power led to violence and bloodshed, all in the name of gaining power over Middle-earth. Throughout the trailer are orcs, the balrog, and a fiery post-credits sequence that teases Sauron’s dark enchantment.
While there is an obvious comparison between “Game of Thrones” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” the new series’ co-creators Patrick McKay and JD Payne tried to minimize that dynamic for viewers.
“We wanted to do a series for everyone, for kids who are 11, 12 and 13 years old, even if sometimes they have to cover their eyes with the blanket if they get too scared,” explained McKay.
“We talked about the tone in Tolkien’s books. This is sometimes scary stuff, and sometimes it’s very intense, sometimes it’s quite political, sometimes it’s quite sophisticated, but it’s also moving, upbeat and life-affirming. It’s about friendship and it’s about brotherhood and underdogs overcoming the great darkness.” Come on, let’s not expect red wedding-style massacres.
