With Colman Domingo in the cast, Sing Sing brings a narrative of hope and transformation through art to those incarcerated in the United States

The production premieres next Friday, the 17th, in the United States. Meanwhile, in Brazil, it should only arrive on February 20th (via CNN). The plot follows a group of men enrolled in a prison theater program.

The simultaneous release in U.S. theaters and prisons is a partnership between A24, Rehabilitation Through the Arts (RTA), non-profit organization that the film is based on, and Edovoan NGO that creates curricula for prisoners to access via tablets in more than 1100 correctional facilities across the North American country.

The film’s cast, in addition to professional actors such as Sunday and Paul Racifeatures artists who are ex-convicts, the majority of whom are former students of the RTAlike Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin and Jon-Adrian “JJ” Velazquez.
