Paris Saint-Germain confirmed, on Monday (7 July), the realization of the Brazilian Paolo César as the new coach of the main women’s team. The bond signed extends until 30 June 2027. At 47, the former defender accumulates as a player of the PSG himself, between 2002 and 2007, a period that marked his first international experience after leaving Fluminense.
Paulo César’s trajectory in French football began in 2002, when he was negotiated by the Rio Club with PSG for 750 thousand euros. During his period in the Parisian team, he was lent to Santos and then moved to Toulouse. As a player, he also defended Clubs such as Flamengo, Vasco, Botafogo and Nacional-Sp, where he started his professional career in 1996. He concluded his career in 2014, after playing for 151 games with the Fluminense shirt, the most defended club during his career.
In the technical command, Paulo César began his career in 2016, in his youth. However, it was on PSG who consolidated his space outside the four lines. In 2020, he took the position of technical assistant of the women’s Under 19 team. Two years later, he was promoted to the role of the main coach of the same team. Last season, he led the young athletes to win the French U19 championship, a title that the club had not collected since 2019.
Since May of this year, he has taken on the main protagonist team. At the head of the group, he guaranteed the classification at the next edition of the Women’s Champions League with a 3-0 victory over Paris FC. In addition, he ended up as a second classified of Arkema Première’s play-offs and won third place in the friendly Tournament World Sevens Football, played in Portugal.
During the official announcement, Paulo César showed enthusiasm for the new challenge. “Being a coach of the PSG women’s team is a huge honor and the achievement of a goal that I have chased for several years,” he said. He also highlighted the emotional bond with the club: “I am deeply linked to this club, its values and this category that I have seen growing. I will dedicate all my energy and experience to this magnificent project”.
In fact, one of the objectives of the new technical committee is to expand the integration between the basic athletes and the professional cast, as underlined in the internal analyzes of the PSG. After all, the presence of Paul César in the lower categories accredited to establish this connection in an organic and planned way.
